Fréwaka is a 2024 folk horror movie about a nursing student caring for a reclusive woman in a remote Irish village, only to uncover sinister secrets that entwine their pasts in eerie, inescapable ways.
Synopsis: Haunted by a devastating tragedy, nursing student Shoo takes a job in a remote village, tending to an agoraphobic woman paralyzed by fear – of her neighbors and the Na Sídhe, sinister entities she claims abducted her decades ago. Isolated and unsettled, Shoo is drawn into the woman’s world of cryptic rituals, whispered warnings, and suffocating paranoia. Their bond deepens in eerie, inexplicable ways, blurring the line between past and present, delusion and truth. As the woman’s fears take on a chilling reality, Shoo begins to unravel, her own buried trauma clawing to the surface. When the shadows stir and something ancient calls from the darkness, she must decide: is she losing her mind, or has she stepped into a nightmare far older and more insidious than she ever imagined? Some doors, once opened, can never be closed.
